The crew ferried us to a small pod of whale sharks, far from any other boats, where we were able to swim cheek to cheek for as long as we could keep up.
My last, incandescent vision was of a shark who slid past me into a beam of sunlight, then shifted her massive head down and hung vertically, like a chandelier, for what seemed like a decade, before disappearing into the deep.
